Quota attainment calculator
Quota attainment is your sales divided by your quota, shown as a percentage. $780,000 in sales against a $1,200,000 quota is 65% attainment.
Formula
Quota attainment = Sales ÷ Quota Remaining to quota = Quota − Sales Projected attainment = Attainment ÷ Share of period elapsed
Example
Your annual quota is $1,200,000. You've sold $780,000 and 60% of the year has gone by.
Attainment is $780,000 ÷ $1,200,000 = 65%. At this pace you finish at 65% ÷ 60% = 108%, with $420,000 still to go.
Annual vs year-to-date attainment
Annual attainment compares your sales to the full-year quota. Year-to-date attainment compares them to the share of quota due by now. A rep at 40% of annual quota halfway through the year is at 80% year-to-date. Many bonus plans pay on the year-to-date figure.
Common questions
What is a good quota attainment?
100% means you hit your number. What's typical depends on how quotas are set at your company, so ask how many reps on your team reached 100% last year. If few did, the quota may be more aggressive than it looks.
Does quota attainment include renewals and upsells?
Only if your plan credits them. New business plans often count new logos in full and upsells only for the increase, while renewals may count toward a separate retention goal or not at all.
How does attainment affect my pay?
Most variable pay is a function of attainment. Straight commission pays the same rate at any attainment, bonus plans pay a share of target equal to attainment above a floor, and accelerator plans pay more per dollar past a threshold.
Can my quota change mid-year?
Many plans let the company adjust quotas or territories during the year. Keep a copy of every quota letter so you can check how attainment was measured.
